Over the sea beyond Skye

Travel to the Isles

The journey to the Outer Hebrides can be an memorable part of an exceptional holiday. A more leisurely journey will enable you to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the highlands and the romance of one of the longer ferry crossings with views of the Inner Hebrides accompanied by seabirds and perhaps with glimpses of dolphins and basking sharks.

If you do not wish to drive, you can travel by train to Fort William and connect with the Jacobite Express, the fabled steam train which will take you on one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Scotland to catch the ferry at Mallaig. Car hire in the islands is easy and you can arrange to collect a car from any of the ferry ports or airports.

Flying to the islands will give you a stunning bird's-eye view and a lasting impression of a land adorned with lochs. There are regular flights from Glasgow and for perfect romantic adventure there is the option of landing on the beach airstrip at Barra.

For all journeys to the islands it is advisable to book well in advance
